About Ashley Gilbert
Ashley Gilbert has been teaching Yoga for 8 years in New York, San Francisco and Amsterdam. Prior to this Ashley was a classically trained modern dancer. She graduated with a degree in Dance from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and toured with several modern dance companies in New York City. Then she discovered Yoga.
Yoga brought together two elements that Ashley valued most- Spirituality and the Body.
Ashley has trained extensively in Vinyasa Flow, Sivananda and Iyengar yoga and has studied with some of the top teachers in each of these schools. She uses a mixture of these styles to inform her class:
- Creativity, heat and play from Vinyasa Flow
- Breath control, mediation and philosophy from Sivananda
- Alignment, stability and power from Iyengar
Most recently she has been influenced by Donna Fhari’s work, which emphasizes individuality, listening to one’s body and personal needs throughout the practice.
Ashley teaches from a gentle, caring place and treats each student with deep respect and consideration. Working to make students passionately aware of their body and mind is her intention. She sees this awareness as the first step towards growth, clarity, expansion and personal and global unity.
